What is the CAT?
The CAT is a standardized test widely used to assess Analytical, Quantitative, Verbal, and Reading skills for use in admissions to the coveted MBA programs in India.
Sections:
VA – 34 questions – 1 hour
LRDI – 32 questions – 1 hour
QA – 34 questions – 1 hour.
Offered:
Computer-based, once in November or December.
All Other MBA Entrance Tests or OMETs, like XAT, NMAT, IIFT, SNAP, TISS, MICAT, CMAT, etc. test on more or less the same topics as CAT does.

Scoring in CAT
Each correct answer carries ‘+3’ marks while each incorrect answer carries ‘-1’ marks. Scores are given in percentiles for each section along with an overall scaled score.
A percentile is a measure used to indicate the value below which a given percentage of test takers fall. For example, a person achieving 99 percentile means that 99 percent of all test takers have scored less than that person. The CAT percentile is calculated on the basis of the CAT normalization process adopted by the IIMs.
